Skin sealant for that healthy glow

What is a skin sealant? For those of you who aren't familiar with the product, skin sealants offer a light application of oils that seal in moisture while delivering beneficial nutrients to your skin.

It is a purer, more direct form of skin nourishment than emulsified moisturizers and – because there is no water added (like moisturizers have) – it doesn't require the use of any antimicrobials to kill off the things that will typically grow in an aqueous product.

Skin sealants were the first skincare items I created after I had the soap making down pat and to this day, they're still one of my favorite products. This is partly because of the benefits the sealants offer but also because of the delightfully silky way they feel on the skin.

My original recipe  is made from organic soy, grapeseed and organic macadamia nut oils. It goes on super light yet is heavy in nutrition. The raw ingredients provide vitamins A, E and C along with antioxidants and essential fatty acids.

My newer recipe is 100% certified organic. It's a little richer than the first other but still offers a nice light application. The organic soy, perilla seed and castor oils also provide vitamins, antioxidants and essential fatty acids. Both formulas add beneficial aromatherapy from the botanical essential oils.

I always blend my oils to maximize the nutritional value of my products. While some people may like the creamy feel of a moisturizer, a skin sealant is truly the most efficient way to get those nutrients to your skin. With a skin sealant you are not paying for the water, emulsifying waxes and preservatives needed for the texture of a lotion or cream.

A proper skin sealant – while based in oils -- is also not likely to make your skin feel greasy or cause break outs when using low comedogenic ingredients. Comedogenic refers to the clogging of pores which can lead to breakouts. My choice of oils is based on preventing this as well as their nutritional value and shelve life.

I hate to use the the term “anti-aging” due to its overuse in the skincare marketing lingo. However, the truth is that if you take care of your skin and make sure you're getting the right nutrients on top of using sunscreen, eating right and drinking plenty of water, you will thrive.

Looking “younger” is simply a by-product of taking care of yourself.
